Brazil Mission Trip

In 2015, a group of young Afro-american went with us to visit some poor areas in Brazil. And they came back to USA with their lives changed.

In 2016 we took a group to Brazil to do Mission work, and it was the best expererince they had. Girlz Rock had an awesome work with the young girls in Rio Bonito city. It was remarkable for those kids.

Denita Washington, founder of Fort Wayne Girlz Rock and Pastor Anthony Payton, of Come as You Are Community Church, and their team of missionaries left Fort Wayne and safely arrived in Brazil, ready to become what they call, “World Citizens.”

Washington and Payton hope to give others the experience of traveling abroad as well as helping those less fortunate. During our interview, both agree more people need to become, “World Citizens,” and see past the four walls in which we live.

As Payton recalled, “I’ve been pastoring Come as You Are Church for 21 years. I’ve known Denita for many years and was there when she started Fort Wayne Girlz Rock.

“This year it seemed to be a good fit to do something with girls,” continued Payton. “Denita and her team will work with the young ladies in Rio Bonito at Pastor Daniel Lincoln’s church, Primeira Igrerja Baptista (First Baptist Church), and do the same thing she does with the groups here—which will be mentoring, encouraging and empowering.”

“I’m excited,” said Washington. “This is our first time, Girlz Rock, partnering with Pastor Payton and Come as You Are Church. We have a one-day conference scheduled on June 18. We will conduct breakout sessions, the theme, ‘Taking Caterpillars to Butterflies.’ The speakers will be: Toni Irby, Sherry Fincher, Jessica Collins and myself. Our hope is to show the young ladies there are options.”
